Hyperhidrosis Memories: Pulling Away From My Child

By Charmaine · on October 6, 2010

Here is another memory that keeps coming to the surface for me.  I wonder if any of you who read this has had this experience as a parent…

It is a beautiful, sunny afternoon at Disney World

Walking through Epcot with my husband, three small sons and our little girl

Our youngest boy is in the stroller, which I would like to push

Because it meant that my sweaty hands were on the handle

And I would not have to hold anyone’s hand.

My husband, wanting to give me a break, insists on pushing the stroller

My second boy, seven years old

Reaches for my hand.

I snatch it away, embarrassed.

I am always afraid of what may come out of a child’s mouth

When I am discovered.

My husband sees this transpire, and is angry

He sees the bewildered look

On the face of my son.

What can I say?

I never heard of this but I believe I saw this on Dr, Phil this little boy’s mom had to wrap his skin every day because it was very soft to the point it would sweat is yours life his story? I saw your post on BlogFrog and that is why I came to your site to know what it is. I admire you being honest because allot of other people who either have this or not will be open about themselves. have a wonderful Sunday

Hi Desiray, I’m not sure I have seen the Dr Phil episode you are referring to. I am glad you came to the site after seeing my post on Blog Frog! I hope many more people will be like you and try to learn what this disorder is all about… much of the battle we have is the negative public perception of sweating. After over 40 years of shame and hiding, being honest and open about this has been a great experience, one that I recommend more people with hyperhidrosis try. Thanks for the kind words! :)
