TREATMENT OPTIONS

drugstore.com, inc.

While there is no perfect, permanent cure for Primary Hyperhidrosis, there are many choices available to you.  It is a very frustrating but inescapable fact that everyone reacts differently to treatments for this disorder, so it is crucial that you keep an open mind and not lose hope while searching for the Hyperhidrosis treatment that will work for you.  Sometimes a person will not find the perfect treatment but can find relief through a combination of clothing/undergarment management, counseling, and a medical intervention that allows some but not complete cessation of sweating.  Please check out the options I have laid out for you– and remember, keep an open mind.

Before seeking treatment of any kind on your own, it is imperative that you find a doctor who can guide you.  Make sure that any medical professional you trust to treat you has experience in treating Primary Hyperhidrosis.  Usually, this would be a dermatologist.  Never assume that all dermatologists have firsthand experience in treating this disorder, however.  If at any point you feel that any doctor is minimizing what you are going through, leave their care and find a doctor who “gets it”, and who will be able to help you find the treatment that will alleviate your sweating.

Hyperhidrosis Treatments covered in this category are:

Topical Treatments– Products such as antiperspirants and medicated wipes.  There are four sub-categories covered here; please read about all of them so that you understand fully what is out there.

Iontophoresis–  This treatment involves placing hands and/or feet in water charged with a low electrical current.  I know!  Crazy!  But– there are plenty of people who have been very happy with their results from trying this out.  Read up!

Oral Medications–  Medicine that can be taken that attempts to control sweat production.  This treatment option is often not pursued, as many doctors report limited relief as well as side effects that are difficult to tolerate.  However, many insurance policies require that patients try this treatment before undergoing more invasive medical interventions for Hyperhidrosis.  With that being said, there are many people who have had success with this option.

Botox– This treatment works well and is well-tolerated by those afflicted with Axillary (Underarm) Hyperhidrosis.  If you are fortunate enough to avoid the side effects and can put up with (and afford) treatments every 6-8 months, this may be your answer.  Minimal Compensatory Sweating– and even if you do have some CS, it is usually temporary.  Palmar/Plantar Hyperhidrosis can be treated with Botox also, but it is said to be painful.

Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy– Read my synopsis of what this procedure is.  If you are considering this step, don’t miss my full report on ETS.

Localized Axillary Procedures– To surgically treat Axillary Hyperhidrosis, there are several procedures being done that in essence remove the sweat glands from the underarm region.  These procedures have improved in recent years and are being performed more frequently.

So you can see that there are so many Hyperhidrosis treatments available to you.  Please read everything I have described– you can find relief! Just keep in mind that everyone is different, so do not lose hope when you cannot find the treatment that works for you right away.  You will find your answer!
