Med e Tate By DERMAdoctor
WONDERING ABOUT MED E TATE BY DERMADOCTOR? READ ON!
DERMAdoctor MED e TATE is a product, marketed toward women, that has become increasingly visible over the past year. Med e Tate is sold as individually packaged medicated wipes.
Despite the feminine packaging, men should not be deterred from using this product– there is nothing in the listed ingredients that are for women only. I must admit that when I first saw this product online I was intrigued– after all, they promised to provide a “blissfully dry existence”! Well, I’ll state the obvious– that’s a Very Big Promise to give to someone with Hyperhidrosis. So of course I ordered some.
Here is the breakdown:
Ingredients: Med e Tate wipes contain the active ingredient Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex GLY. 19%, specifically. If you have been doing your homework and reading up on my reviews of the other kinds of antiperspirants being sold, Dear Reader, you will recognize this chemical as being the very same as the active ingredient in “clinical-strength” antiperspirants (i.e. Secret Clinical Strength, et al).

Cost: Sitting down? Well of course you are. $48 for 30 individually packaged wipes. I think I actually heard you gasp. Cheap, however, in comparison to Botox, Iontophoresis, and ETS, no?
Side Effects: None, other than a slightly chalky feel on the skin.
Does it work? Ah, the 48-dollar-question. In a word, kinda. I have hunted down every review online and of course have been using them myself. I am sorry to tell you that this product will not be putting all those ETS doctors out of business anytime soon. No, it will not cease the sweat production. It does, however, help some people quite a lot. For others, it can be used as a great treatment in addition to other treatments/products. Also, it’s a wonderful option to have to use in certain areas of the body.
Where does Med e Tate work best? For people with Facial Blushing and Sweating, Med e Tate seems to really be a huge help. It seems to be non-irritating to sensitive facial skin, and its formula is thin enough that applying makeup after applying Med e Tate is not a problem. I have seen several reviews that say that Facial issues are practically eliminated. BUT…what’s my favorite phrase? FOR SOME PEOPLE.
A nice little happy side effect is that several people noticed that it helps diminish fine lines, and it keeps makeup from melting off. I’ll take it!
For palmar/plantar sweating, I would say it is a little less than moderately effective. If your palmar/plantar sweating is on the mild side, this could really help you. I have had breakthrough plantar sweating while using it, but I think it has successfully prevented some episodes. I definitely felt it working on my hands. (However, my palmar sweating is very mild due to the ETS procedure I had!)
***Very, very handy to be able to swipe the backs of the legs, the odd spots on the torso, and groin area! DOES NOT discolor fabrics.***
For the underarms, I would recommend that you keep using your favorite antiperspirant– but if you carry the wipes with you, they may be able to give you a bit of a “boost” in protection if you need it.
For those of you who have had ETS and are dealing with Compensatory Sweating (like me!), these wipes may be worth the hefty investment. I carry them in my purse, my car, and have them in my desk drawer. If your CS is like mine and comes and goes intermittently but not profusely, these may make those episodes more manageable.
Try this suggestion: The directions do not mention this, but try applying Med e Tate at night before bed. Med e Tate contains the same active ingredient– Aluminum Zirconium– as the “clinical-strength” antiperspirants like Secret Cinical Strength, and the key for those products to work well is to apply it at night, to dry skin, before bed. So, logically, it should follow that the same strategy should work for Med e Tate. I would love some feedback on whether this works for any of you.
The upshot: Med e Tate definitely has its uses. For most people, it will not cure Hyperhidrosis. It can help Facial HH, Compensatory Sweating, mild palmar/plantar HH, and Other Areas. It will work for both men and women. For some, it may be too pricey. For others… priceless. (sorry– couldn’t resist)
